Cotton Candy Linky Party Inspiration

Tips & Techniques Thursday: Altered Stickles Alphabets

Hi everybody! :) I am excited to share my tips & technique for All That Stickles again for this lovely Thursday. Stickles are just so lovely and there are so many ways that you can use them.

Today, I am sharing the Altered Stickles Alphabets" technique. I am sure most of us have packs and packs of alphabets in our stash but sometimes, we cannot find the perfect colored alphabet for our scrappy project. Do not worry... That's when Stickles will come to the rescue! Any alpha (wood, chipboard, foam, fabric) can be altered to the color you want, PLUS it is bling-ed up! How cool is that?

First up, I wanted to make a masculine card and the Basic Grey chipboard alphas I had were pink. So, I grabbed my Frayed Burlap Distress Stickles and started altering it.

You can be generous and fill every inch of it with Stickles but here, I chose to leave some of that pink peeking out to give some dimension.

You can heat set it with your heat gun but I like to leave it to dry overnight. If you want, you can always add more Stickles. Don't be afraid to be messy! Perfection is not what we need here.

Once dry, add it to your scrappy project. Here's the finished card!

And here's a close up of the altered Stickles alphabets.

Next, you can also alter your Thickers. 

Those with countless packs of Thickers in your stash say "Aye"! :)

Here I have used foam Thickers for my Project Life title card of the week. I like to buy white Thickers as it gives me the opportunity to alter them.

Again, grab your favorite Stickles - I am using Black Soot Distress Stickles - and alter away! 

Fill it up to your liking - as little or as much Stickles as you like. I have chosen to put lots and lots of it here. :) 

After that, leave it to dry and here's the finished title card.

Look at how gorgeous it is up close! :)

Hopefully you are inspired to bring out those un-used alphabets you have laying around and start altering it with some lovely Stickles.

Tips & Techniques Tuesday: Homemade Stickles Embellishments

 Hey there, it's Ann from the All that Stickles Design Team and today I get to share with you how I make some of my own embellishments.  One of the perks of being a mixed media artist and designer is that I have loads of stuff.   However, it does happen that what I have on hand isn't exactly what I need  .

        When that happens I improvise and make what I need.  Yes, I could just run out and grab something from my little local scrapbook store but it might be closed, especially late at night!  Then  

   I am  trying to use what I already have and I can't justify running out, spending money and gas on MORE supplies.  

For example, in the first picture I show you that I have on hand these blue glittery stars and black swirls and flowers.  I wanted those shapes, somewhat, but not those colours.  These embellishments will be needed for another project so I can't just alter them.

So by searching a little in my huge scrap box and recycling bin. I come across some leftover balsa wood stars and a scrap die cut star.

   These are perfect and I just need to paint them and add stickles to make them glittery!

                           

                                                                                                                                                           Same goes for the swirls, I make some die cuts out of recycled food packaging, paint them and decorate with more stickles.  I also did that with a few cardstock scraps to make flowers.

                                        

It's so much fun to take some humble cardboard and scraps of paper and to transform into some pretty embellishments that are original, colour coordinated to my project,  and inexpensive.  A little Stickle goes a long way!

The above is an example of my homemade embellishments enhanced with stickles.  I made this 12 x 12 layout several years ago, and it was pivotal in boosting my confidence to make more of my own original embellishments.  I used some chipboard, paint, a broken necklace chain, a few eyelets, brads and of course Stickles to make the balls and chains for this Pirates theme page.  Look closer and you can see there are more stickles used to enhance the skull's cap.  The swirls were also made from chipboard that I painted, added stickles, glued beads, and touched up with more stickles!

Distress Stickles with Markers

Tonya here with a quick tutorial using one of my favorite techinques:

 

Distress Stickles and Distress Markers

 

 

I love using my Distress Stickles.  They are a more muted tone compared to the regular Stickles. 

But sometimes they just do not have enough color for my projects.  So, after the Stickles dry, I use the brush end of my distress marker to color the up a bit.  You could also use a paint brush or an applicator to apply ink from a distress pad.  The color will not be as rich as the markers.  The markers color is a bit more concentrated than the pads. 

 

 

 

Here is a sample I created with distress Stickles with and without marker.

The top row is with marker, as the bottom is without.

The markers give the Stickles a richer, deeper color.  It does not take away from the distress look or soft sugar crystal like texture. 

 

 

I love to use this technique on many items, such as die cuts and borders on photo mats.
